Yinlips YDPG18: Specs, Price and Release On China — A Vita Copycat?

2

It may look like PS Vita on the outside, but it is actually the Chinese’s take on Xperia Play. The Yinlips YDGP18 is an Android smart game player that does not have the same internal quad-core features like the Vita console. Instead of making headway towards premium portable gaming experience, Yinlips made its device running on Android platform (Froyo/Gingerbread) that is only capable of old school gaming emulators.

The unit works as a relatively affordable provider of classic game play all enclosed in very cool advanced gaming machine design. By providing the player access to classic arcade games that a regular tablet does not have makes the YDGP18 unique. This Yinlips’ contraption works by providing you full touch screen game experience with gravity sensor directions. Also, the unit supports multi-player games for you and the rest of your YDGP18 buddies.

The device is readily installed with a 5-inch display (800 x 480 resolution), variety of HDMI ports, a single-core 1.2GHz processor, Wi-Fi connectivity, and 512MB of DDR2 RAM. According to many, with these hum drum specs, the number of people who might want to get their hands on this Vita doppelganger is, well, very few.

On the brighter side of things, those who have intentions of having a collection of old games could put in this Yinlips toy. And that would be right next to the Family Computer and the Atari. But, then again, collecting video games past is not such a bad thing. In fact, you might end up loving the gadget for what it is and what it is not.

..I see since my previous comments this morning that this article appears to have been "auto tuned" and comments wiped. Which is fine and now this post is nicely done I commend you. I would like to add a few things. The Yinlips YDPG18 is not in the same ball park with the specs of the Sony Vita, but it wasn’t meant to be either. Lets face it I find the PSP form factor and control layout is a pretty good one so I can’t fault Yinlips for wanting to copy that. I should point out there is nothing on the YDPG18 you can’t do on any capable Android tablet with downloaded apps, but minus the hardware controls and buttons. Also to note Yinlips is not new to open source hand held gaming devices if you look at there product line this is like there 10th device, but I do believe their 1st Android type gaming system. The emulators on it are older versions of emulators available on Google’s Android market place. As shipped its not capable of running Google’s market place, but there a few good YouTube videos from people who own it showing how to “root” and install Google’s Android market on the YDPG18. This also allows you to remove what apps you don’t want or just install newer, faster, better running emulators or any compatible Android game from the market place. The price is also a nice point to bring up at around average of this comment is $120USD. As is this device is pretty cool for the money, but rooted it is even better. I have one on order from a Hong Kong electronics dealer on Ebay, but judging from the video’s I’ve seen I don’t think I’ll be disappointed!
