Motorola has unveiled a RAZR Developer Edition which features an unlocked bootloader allowing users to tinker with the OS at any time.

A bootloader code executes once a device is powered on and before the built-in OS starts to run. Manufacturers intentionally lock a device bootloader to prevent users from modifying the operating system or flash a custom ROM thereby voiding the device warranty. The Developer Edition still contains the usual specs of the original RAZR such as its thin design, KEVLAR fiber and Super AMOLED display. Despite its varying versions, Motorola RAZR’s common specs include a TFT LCD, a microSD expandable to 1Gb, GPR, Bluetooth and a mini-USB port.
The unlockable/relockable mobile phone is coming to Europe while an American variant is on the works for now through the developer network MOTODEV. It’s now on pre-order basis though Motorola Shop. The Droid RAZR Developer Edition is intended to meet regulatory and carrier obligations as well as the demands of the developer community. The original Droid RAZR has been touted as the thinnest smartphone in the world due to its 7.1mm thinnest point, and has a Gorilla glass screen covering of its AMOLED display and a Kevlar back plate. It’s an Android-based 4G LTE-enable smartphone running on a dual 1.2Ghz ARM Cortex-A9 processor.
