Movie buffs may soon be using these handy wearable displays presented at CES instead of smartphones and tablets. One manufacturer who took center stage with this technology is Lumus. The Israel-based company who specializes in wearable displays and see-through lenses introduced 2 futuristic wearable displays – the DK-32 (Development Kit) and its monocular version PD-18-4.

First off, the Lumus DK-32 looks like a normal 3D sunglasses from afar but upon a closer inspection you’ll be amazed at what it can offer. The company utilizes its Light-guide Optical element (display pod) and Optical Engine to project high definition 3D images (720p) to the wearer’s eyes.
It works by projecting light images via the Optical engine to the lenses – which will be reflected to the wearer’s eyes. It’s surprisingly lightweight (27 grams) despite its looks. The user can adjust the display parameters via the display pod for a more comfortable fit. The projected images are clear and bright but don’t impair one’s vision while walking.
On the other hand, the Lumus PD-18-4 resembles like a “geiger counter” in the anime Dragon Ball Z. Basically, it has similar specs with that of DK-32 only with a single eyepiece. No announcement if these Lumus models will be released in public or will have special applications in the military or movie industry. Watch out for more details.
